This information is for those who are interested in using stones for meditative and/or healing work. This is by no means a comprehensive guide to stones, just some basic information on a few of the more popular ones.
Crystal Quartz: Ruled by the sun as well as the moon, fire and water, and associated with silver, copper and gold. Crystals are a 'fix all' stone, vibrating at a perfect frequency, they amplify your body's own vibrations, speeding up the healing process. Rose quartz is used in matters of the heart- both literally and figuratively. Blue quartz is used for peace and tranquility. Green quartz helps stimulate creativity. Smoky quartz is a mood elevator.
Agate: Agate is used in work pertaining to strength, courage, longevity, and removing envy or spite. It is ruled by Mercury.
Amethyst: A receptive stone, amethyst is ruled by both Jupiter and Neptune, and by water. It is used in dream work, overcoming addictions, healing, psychism, and protection.
Onyx: Ruled by fire, Mars and Saturn, onyx is used for protection and reducing sexual desires. Caution is given when using onyx- repression of one's sexual self can lead to serious troubles. When worn, onyx tends to 'make or break' relationships, bringing true feelings to the surface.
Opal: The opal is equally ruled by all planets and elements. Work with opals include psychism, beauty, monetary issues, luck and recalling past lives.
Ruby: Not associated with any planet, the ruby is ruled by fire. Properties include wealth, protection, strengthening psychic defense, banishing sadness, dispelling fear, and warding off nightmares.
Tiger Eye: Ruled by the Sun and by fire. Tiger Eyes are used when working with monetary issues, protection, increasing energy, divination, and creating courage and confidence.
Turquoise: Ruled by Venus and Neptune, and by earth. Uses include protection, marital harmony, friendship, alleviating fevers, strengthening eyes, travelling protection, reducing headaches, speed healing processes, and courage.
